Check the obvious. Cable attached correctly? Power applied? Cable
and drive functional? CMOS set correctly with FDC enabled and correct
type of floppy selected?

You might also try booting to a DOS boot disk after setting up CMOS.
This will tell you a lot about your hardware.

You have a 5¼" drive?! Why? You can't get the disks for it anymore! Haven't
been able to for years! If I were you I'd swap it for a 3½" - the media is
much more readily available.

I bought a new floppy drive for my new computer because one was needed
to install the drivers for SATA during XP installation. I couldn't get
it to work (or another old one I had around). I don't know if it's the
quality of the drives or something to do with XP.

I gave up and came up with another (better) solution. I made a bootable
XP disk with the drivers incorporated into XP. These are the instructions:

It's great.

I am not sure what the above means, but I guess you are saying that the
A: drive is a 1.44, and the B: drive is a 1.2?? Just to let you know,
that a 1.2 MB floppy DOES work as B: drive, and is recognized under XP
Pro. I have seen it work.

Typo in my first post. There is 1 3 1/2 floppy, that in the hardware list
has a yeallow circle with exclamation in it. I can unintall it, reinstall it
and I get an error saying that the hardware may not work properly, driver
not loaded correctly??

Thanks
